Day 4 Subject: It's all about networking, [firstname] Hi [firstname], Once your LinkedIn profile is set up and you have created your company page, the next thing you need to do is to start growing your personal network. This will create countless new opportunities to promote your business, to find business partners and to gain clients – among many other things. It's all about “Degrees of Separation” When you first sign up to LinkedIn, you'll be given the opportunity to add a bunch of people you already know through Facebook, your e-mail account and so on. At first, this might seem like an irritation and you'll likely be tempted to skip this step – but don't. Why? Because those contacts are potentially valuable – even if you're not really interested in their careers. To understand this is to appreciate the full power of LinkedIn, which often comes down to, essentially, being a case of “degrees of separation”. This is based on the “6 degrees of separation law” where the belief is every single person on the planet is connected to each other within 6 degrees. Your 1st degree connections are people you're directly connected to. 2nd Degree connections are people who are connected to your 1st degree connections. 3rd Degree connections are people connected to your second degree connections. You can reach out to them and try to “upgrade” them to a 1st degree connection – that makes all their 1st degree connections your 2nd degree connections and so on. To see this in action, take a look at your current LinkedIn profile and then search for someone influential that you want to connect with. Don't be afraid to reach for the stars and to aim big – Donald Trump might be slightly too high up the pecking order but, if you have a few hundred contacts, then you may find that you're connected to someone who is connected to someone influential like Jeff Bezos – or to a client you REALLY want to do business with. Warmly, [Your Name] PS. Don't forget your copy of my LinkedIn success guide. Here's the link: [link to sales page].
